Rep. Bill Sandifer Elected Chairman of the S.C. House Labor, Commerce, and Industry Committee

Sandifer named to one of top leadership positions in the S.C. legislature.

(Seneca, SC) – Today, state Rep. Bill Sandifer was elected by his fellow House members to serve as Chairman of the Labor, Commerce, and Industry Committee (LCI). LCI debates all business-related legislative matters for the House and is one of only six standing committees in the S.C. House of Representatives.

“I am confident that Chairman Sandifer will be a leading voice in our efforts to improve South Carolina’s business climate so we can create jobs,” says House Speaker Bobby Harrell.  “Because of his experience, Bill knows the intricacies of working on business-related legislation and how to make decisions that will fuel South Carolina’s economy and ultimately raise our state’s per capita income.”

Sandifer notes that his personal experience as a small businessman has motivated him to serve on and take a leadership role on LCI.

“As a small business owner, I have always been keenly aware of the need for pro-business measures in our state,” Sandifer says. “There is important work ahead of us and I look forward to working with my House colleagues and members of the business community to craft legislation that will truly benefit the people of South Carolina.”

Sandifer has represented S.C. House District 2 in Oconee County since 1994. Throughout his career in public service, he has earned a reputation for being an experienced and dedicated conservative who is able to work across party lines for positive change. He was also elected by his House colleagues to serve on the House Ethics Committee. Additionally, his ability to build consensus earned him the appointment of Chief Majority Whip, a position he held for two consecutive House Majority leaders. He is the longest-serving Republican member of the LCI committee and previously served as chairman of LCI’s Public Utilities Subcommittee, which addresses current and future energy needs of South Carolina as well as all other matters.

“Being elected LCI Chairman is a dream I have had since first being elected to the S.C. House 14 years ago,” Sandifer says. “I am honored, humbled, and very excited to assume this leadership position. As LCI Chairman, I believe that I’ll be able to better serve the people of my district and our state.”
