Members of the SC House of Representatives Labor, Commerce, and Industry (LCI) Committee have elected Bill Sandifer to serve as chairman for a fourth term.

The LCI committee addresses all business-related legislation. It works to ensure businesses have the tools they need to be successful as well as ensuring the skills of South Carolina workers are equipped to meet the demand. LCI is one of six standing committees in the SC House.

“I am humbled and honored to be elected LCI chairman. This job provides valuable opportunities to help build a business-friendly climate in South Carolina that will attract jobs,” Sandifer says. “An excellent example of new job growth is Plastic Products Company Inc., which chose Oconee County for its facility earlier this year. Progress like this helps ensure we are on the right track in growing our economy and creating jobs.”

Sandifer says that he looks forward to pursing an active agenda in 2015 that will focus on economic development and encouraging the growth of small businesses, as well as energy and green technology.

“LCI has a strong group of legislators this session and I am excited to work with all of them. I’m confident we can accomplish much for the people of South Carolina,” Sandifer adds. “Most importantly, we share the same vision and the same goal—passing legislation that moves our economy forward and creates good-paying jobs.”

Sandifer has represented Oconee County’s House District 2 since 1994 and was first elected LCI chairman in 2008.

In addition to the LCI chairmanship, Sandifer also serves as South Carolina’s representative in several regional leadership groups including the Southern States Energy Board and the Southern Legislative Conference, where he chairs the Energy & Environment Committee.
