Today, Rep. Bill Sandifer has officially filed for re-election to the S.C. House of Representatives. He has served the people of Oconee County in the House since 1994.

Sandifer says job creation, economic development, and education would be the “cornerstone” issues for his next term. His special focus would be improving South Carolina’s business climate, so that private-sector companies can grow and create new jobs.

“I am running for re-election because I want to focus all of my time and energy on doing something about getting our economy back on track and working for South Carolina jobs,” Sandifer said after filing at the state capitol building in Columbia. “In addition, I want to continue fighting for issues like lower taxes, efficient government, and fiscal responsibility on behalf of hardworking families.”

During his time in the House, Sandifer has held several leadership positions. He currently serves as Chairman of the House Labor, Commerce, and Industry Committee, which debates all business-related legislation and is one of six key committees.

“Rep. Sandifer is a man of integrity and a leading voice in our efforts to create jobs in South Carolina,” said House Speaker Bobby Harrell. “I am extremely pleased he has decided to run for re-election this year.”

“The people of Oconee County have a great public servant in Bill Sandifer,” said Chairman of the Oconee County Republican Party Eddie Adams. “During the 16 years he has represented us in Columbia, he has proven his loyal devotion to conservative values and ability to get things done.”

Sandifer, a retired small-business owner who lives in Seneca, has said that his long-standing open door policy would not change in his next term. “Many elected officials go to Columbia and lose touch with the voters back home. I am committed to returning home every weekend to listen to my constituents and keep my finger on the pulse of what’s happening. I have the privilege of representing so many great people and I am always eager to hear from them.”

Elections in South Carolina will take place on November 2, 2010.
