Sandifer chosen to attend leadership conference in VA

Oconee County Representative Bill Sandifer has been selected by South Carolina Speaker David H. Wilkins as one of the two State Representatives to attend the National Conference of State Legislators (NCSL) Leadership Institute. Representative Doug Smith of Spartanburg will be joining Sandifer in the trip to Chantilly, Virginia.

According to a press release the NCSL Leadership Conference is a four-day seminar designed to strengthen the skills of emerging leaders across the nation.

“I believe that this is the first time that this particular type of course has been offered to the State Legislature. I am very honored to go and represent Oconee County,” said Sandifer.

Topics to be covered include successful negotiating and effective communications.

Sandifer said, “I go before the Republican Caucus and try to get them to vote for certain issues. Then I lead the debate on the House floor.”

Sandifer is the Chief Majority Whip for the South Carolina House, as well as second vice chair on the House Labor, Commerce and Industry Committee.

“Representative Sandifer was a natural choice for this seminar, Speaker Wilkins said. “I depend on Bill’s leadership on the House floor, and without fail, he gets the job done. He is respected and admired by his colleagues for his hard work, thoughtfulness and commitment to public service. This opportunity will only enhance Bill Sandifer’s already formidable leadership skills.”
